Take a Comfortable Ski Vacation for a Bargain Price

The anticipation of a family ski vacation brings out exhilarating emotions while perhaps concern from your wallet. The thing of it is, ski vacations are an investment. So, I would like to share a few ‘tricks’ on how to take a comfortable ski vacation for a bargain price.

Travel
Flights - Kayak.com is probably your best source for comparing and finding cheap flights, but you probably already know that. To take advantage of your flights, sign up for a rewards card, earn miles, and get free flights. It takes time to build miles, so put those home remodels, tuition fees, or any other significant expenses on the card to start earning now.
Cars – Thanks to the SkyCard, all SkyRun guests receive preferred pricing on car rentals with Avis or Budget. Some SkyRun locations have discounted ground transportation deals like 20% off SkyRun Telluride Express. However, if you’re able to fly into or close to your destination, you can always take an Uber from the airport to your SkyRun as a last resort. Most mountain towns have free buses and are small enough to get around easily. This way you avoid the stress of driving and paying to park.

Lift Tickets
For starters, check with your location’s SkyCard to see if they have discounted lift tickets.
Smaller areas, like Apex Ski Resort, have lower ticket prices.
You can also save money if you want to go to the larger areas, like Breckenridge Ski Resort, by purchasing four-pack tickets or season passes during the summer for their lowest rates.

Ski Rentals
This one can be tough with growing kids, but if everyone has personal gear, it will save feet, tears, and a rental expense. Plus, everyone will be far more comfortable skiing on the equipment they are familiar with. If your kids are still growing and you still want seasonal gear, look into a seasonal rental or ask family and friends to borrow their equipment.
If you need to rent, do a little research to find out who has the best rates and reserve online for additional savings. Slope-side ski rentals are usually the priciest. Most ski rentals also have free transportation. So, if you’re staying within walking distance of the mountain, go with the cheaper rental, have your equipment delivered for free, and avoid the morning chaos in ski rental shops.
If you happen to fly into a major city and are driving to your destination, compare the price of renting your gear in the city with a shop in your destination.

Lessons
Unless you absolutely need them, I wouldn't do it. Corporate ski lessons can be fun but are not cheap. Practice at your local mountain, if you have one, so when the ski vacation comes around, you're ready.
Perhaps you have friends where you’re going. Ask them to help you out for a half day and buy them a case of beer or dinner afterward.

Lodging
With over 700 SkyRuns, there is a good chance you can find accommodations for as low as $200/night. Not to mention all the amenities and benefits you'll receive!

Food
Cook breakfast and dinner in your SkyRun! Take a look at our blog ‘Quick and Easy Home-Cooked Meals for Your Vacation Rental’ for some delicious ideas. Packing sack lunches or snacks is another easy way to stay fueled on the mountain.
When you want to eat out, think of two words; Happy Hour. Happy hour is a cheaper way to eat out and provides the après ski enjoyment!

Ski vacations are an investment, and we want you to relax during this time; it is a vacation. By using these tricks, you will be well on your way to a comfortable ski vacation for a bargain price!
