Explore These Hidden Gems on Anna Maria Island

White sand beaches, gorgeous, crystal blue waters, and old town charm –  all of these things and more make Anna Maria Island a must-see beach destination in Florida. Beyond the beach, there are countless things to do in Anna Maria – the trick is finding the best places for your family to enjoy. As locals who live, work, and have fun here, we’re confident we give the best local recommendations, and we’re prepared to share all the hidden gems Anna Maria Island offers.

This tiny island itself is a rare find among the other bustling beach towns along the Florida gulf coast. With a slower pace, a rich history, and no buildings over 3-stories tall, it delivers small-town coastal vibes for a truly relaxing getaway. The island may be just 7 miles long, but it’s still packed with unique experiences, and our vacation rentals put you right at the heart of all of them. A stay at one of our properties gives you a true feel for island life, immersing you directly into neighborhoods and the daily life of a local, instead of placing you in a crowded hotel in a busy tourist district. We invite you to plan your trip with us, and be sure to add these attractions to your itinerary when you visit.

Bean Point

Located on the island’s Northern tip, you can make your way to this tucked-away haven by following a winding path through rolling sand dunes surrounded by tall palms and native coastal vegetation. When you finally head out of the trees, you’ll reach a boardwalk taking you up to get your first glimpse of the turquoise blue water.

Head onto the beach, where you’ll be met with gorgeous sights of Tampa Bay and Skyway Bridge. You may even have the chance to see local sea-life off the shores – the area is known to be a popular spot for both dolphins and manatees. Pack a picnic, bring your chairs, set up your umbrella, and spend the entire day here. It’s the best spot on the island to take in those famous Florida sunsets.

Rod and Reel Pier

Positioned at the end of a long pier jutting into the Gulf of Mexico, this long-standing dining establishment has been a local favorite for decades. The restaurant offers a selection of traditional dishes as well as its famous fish specials. Sit outside on the deck for the best experience with the most incredible ocean views, especially at sunrise and sunset – it’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Coquina Beach Market

Held three days a week at South Coquina Beach, the Coquina Beach Market is a great place to find local treasures, including fresh produce, jewelry, and clothing. Numerous local artists and vendors set up their booths on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, allowing you to stroll until you find that perfect item. You can even plan to have a bite to eat here, as many vendors serve breakfast and lunch.

Ginny and Jane E’s

This eclectic cafe and shop is deep-rooted in Anna Maria history, as it is located in the old IGA grocery store that opened in 1946. The entire space could be described as one fascinating art piece with eccentric decor hanging from the walls and even suspended from the ceiling. Here you can enjoy delicious meals and baked goods, grab a latte, or explore the never-ending selection of unique gifts and quirky keepsakes.

Horseback Riding on Palma Sola Bay

Experience the beauty of the beach in a new way – atop a horse. There are several options for guided horseback excursions in the Anna Maria area. These trips allow you to get a little more adventurous, beginning the ride on the beach before heading into the bay and ending with a swim with your horse. It is truly an experience like no other and will give you memories to last a lifetime.
