Deer Valley’s Expanded Excellence is Redefining the Ski Experience

Traverse New Terrain this Season at Deer Valley

Deer Valley Resort in Utah has entered a new era with its Expanded Excellence initiative, one of the most ambitious terrain expansions in North American ski history that has been in progress since 2023 in partnership with Extell Development Company. Built in phases and now rolling out major new terrain for the 2025-26 season, this project more than doubles Deer Valley’s skiable acres, adds new lifts, and delivers exciting new ways to explore the mountain.

What’s New for the 2025–26 Ski Season

This winter marks one of the biggest transformations the resort has ever seen, making use of perviously undeveloped land to the south of Bald Mountain between Route 40 and the current resort in an area formally known as the Mayflower Mountain Resort project.

  • Terrific Terrain Growth: The skiable area has grown to over 4,300 acres, more than twice the size it was before.
  • New Chairlifts and Gondola: Ten new chairlifts have been added, including the high-capacity East Village Express Gondola, a ten-passenger lift linking the Deer Valley East Village base area with the new Park Peak terrain.
  • Hundreds of Runs: There are nearly 100 new ski runs catering to beginner, intermediate, and expert skiers, from cruisers to more adventurous bowl and glade options.
  • 200+ Runs Total: With the expanded terrain, Deer Valley now features more than 200 named trails across 10 mountain peaks, making the expansion alone one of the largest ski areas built in the last 50 years.

A New Base of Operations in Deer Valley East Village

The expansion isn’t just about slopes. At the base of the new terrain sits Deer Valley East Village, a modern, walkable mountain village that enhances access and elevates the guest experience.

  • Convenient arrival point: Access to the expanded ski area will be through the Deer Valley East Village entrance on Route 40, bypassing Park City and reducing traffic. Skiers will also be able to access the new terrain from connection points on the mountain.
  • Services and Amenities: The East Village will eventually house skier services, rentals, additional mountain operations, dining, retail, and luxury lodging options.
  • Growing Community: Parking and transportation infrastructure are being expanded to support more visitors while easing access to the mountain. This will include 1,200 new parking spaces that are planned to accommodate day visitors.

This new hub makes it easier to begin each day on the slopes and enjoy everything Deer Valley has to offer.

Deer Valley Trail Map Highlights & Navigation

An updated trail map for the 2025–26 season shows the expanded mountain footprint, including the epic 4.8-mile-long Green Monster, running from the top of Park Peak to the Deer Valley East Village base area.

Highlights for this season include:

  • Seven additional chairlifts serving newly developed terrain sectors.
  • Nearly 80 new ski runs available this winter alone.
  • Terrain spanning iconic features like Park Peak and Big Dutch Peak.

The map also highlights future expansions, including terrain on Hail Peak for the 2026-27 season and ongoing development on South Peak in later phases.

What’s Next for Deer Valley

The Expanded Excellence initiative continues to unfold over multiple seasons and as this multi-year project continues, Deer Valley is setting a new standard for what a luxury ski vacation can offer.

  • Terrain Growth: As construction progresses, Deer Valley aims for 5,700+ acres of skiable terrain, which would place it among the largest ski resorts in North America upon full build-out.
  • Additional Lifts & Access: Additional lifts are planned to improve overall resort connectivity and access to Hail Peak.
  • Resort Experience Enhancements: Integrating services like ski patrol coverage, snow grooming, ski school access, and dining into the new terrain ensures that the expanded areas feel seamless with the rest of the mountain.
