As your local hosts at SkyRun Vacation Rentals in Whitefish, we’re here to make sure your Glacier adventure is seamless, stress-free, and unforgettable. The biggest headline for 2026?Vehicle reservations are no longer required anywhere in the park. That said, there are new updates specifically impacting Logan Pass and the Going-to-the-Sun Road shuttle system that visitors should understand ahead of time. No More Vehicle Reservations in 2026 In 2026, Glacier National Park will eliminate the timed-entry vehicle reservation system that has been in place in recent years. Visitors will: Not need timed-entry vehicle reservations Be able to access any park area without advance vehicle permits While this simplifies entry overall, new parking and shuttle guidelines at Logan Pass will require thoughtful planning. Logan Pass Parking Changes (Starting July 1, Weather Permitting) Beginning July 1 (conditions permitting), Glacier will implement new parking limits at Logan Pass to improve visitor turnover. What to Know: Private vehicles are limited to 3 hours of parking No overnight parking allowed Exceptions apply only to permitted backcountry users and guests of Granite Park Chalet with proper permits The three-hour limit is designed to allow more visitors to experience this iconic alpine area. Three hours is typically enough time to: Hike to Hidden Lake Overlook Attend a ranger-led interpretive program Visit the Logan Pass Visitor Center Planning Longer Hikes? If you’re planning extended hikes that begin at Logan Pass — such as: Highline Trail to Granite Park Chalet Highline Trail to the Loop Trailhead You will need to use the park shuttle system. 2026 Going-to-the-Sun Road Shuttle Updates In 2026, Glacier will pilot a ticketed-only shuttle system along Going-to-the-Sun Road, including early morning express routes to Logan Pass. This system is designed for visitors planning longer alpine hikes and full-day experiences. Important Shuttle Changes Shuttle boarding requires a valid ticket No walk-up boarding without a ticket Shuttles will not stop at Avalanche Avalanche Lake and Trail of the Cedars will not be accessible by shuttle in 2026 Visitors who want to explore Avalanche Lake must plan to drive and secure parking independently. Shuttle Routes Service will operate from both sides of the park. West Side Express Routes Departing from: Apgar Visitor Center Lake McDonald Lodge Stops include: The Loop (afternoon service) Logan Pass East Side Express Routes Departing from: St. Mary Visitor Center Rising Sun Riders may transfer between routes at Logan Pass, similar to previous years. Additional route details, boarding times, and stop locations will be released closer to the 2026 season. We’ll continue updating this blog as more information becomes available. How to Get Glacier Shuttle Tickets All shuttle tickets will be: First come, first served Available exclusively through Recreation.gov (they also have an app) Not available for purchase inside the park Visitors must create a Recreation.gov account to reserve tickets. Cost $1 processing fee per ticket Important Details Tickets are non-transferable A photo ID may be required at boarding Passengers age two and older require a ticket 2026 Booking Windows There will be two release windows: 60 Days in Advance Starting May 2, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. MDTTickets will be released on a rolling basis. Next-Day Entry Tickets Beginning June 30 at 7:00 p.m. MDTLimited tickets released for next-day use. If Logan Pass hiking is a priority during your stay, we recommend setting calendar reminders for these booking windows. Opening Dates for Going-to-the-Sun Road The alpine section of Going-to-the-Sun Road cannot be opened on a fixed schedule. Most years, the full road opens by early July, but heavy snow, avalanches, or late-season storms can delay access. These conditions may also impact shuttle start dates. As locals in the Whitefish and Flathead Valley area, we closely monitor park conditions and are always happy to help guests adjust plans as needed.
