Wildfire Evacuations in Wildernest

UPDATE 6/15/2018, 10:00 AM
Great news!  The Buffalo Mountain Fire evacuation order has been lifted!  At 3:00 PM Thursday afternoon residents were able to return to their homes although a pre-evacuation notice is still in place, meaning that another evacuation could go into effect in the event that conditions worsen.  As of Thursday, the fire was reportedly 45% contained and is still considered an active fire.

Those who were evacuated are advised to dispose of all perishable food as the power was out for over 24 hours.  The FIRC (Family and Intercultural Resource Center) has placed multiple dumpsters throughout Wildernest for food disposal.  Please do not dispose of food waste in your normal home or complex garbage receptacle as this will attrack bears and other unwanted wildlife.  Additionally, the FIRC has placed volunteers at each dumpster site to provide complimentary food including staples like milk, eggs, pasta, chicken, fruits and vegetables.
