Favorite Cape Cod Areas

Chapin Memorial Beach

This spot, backed by sand dunes, opens to panoramas of Cape Cod Bay and thanks to its size, doesn’t feel crowded, even in mid-summer. Surfers love the strong tides along the ocean and tidal pools are mini-marine ecosystems to explore. Note that parking is limited and sunbathers might not enjoy the rockier beaches.

Princess Beach

Cape Cod conjures images of oceanside play, but family-friendly Princess Beach’s home on Scargo Lake makes it an excellent choice for splashing, relaxing, and exploring. Add in a playground, grill area, and restroom access, and you’ll soon see why this spot fills up fast on warm summer days.

Corporation Beach

Leave the big waves to the adventures–Corporation Beach’s allure comes in the form of calm waters and rolling waves that invite kids and kids at heart to float and frolic. Take the edge off the heat with ice cream and more at the spot’s concession stand and relax–ample parking means you won’t have to fight the crowds. Make sure to stay until low tide when tidal pools emerge.

Howes Beach

Yet another beach gem where you can spy Cape Cod Bay! Views from Howe’s

Beach’s views only get better when scaling sand dunes to capture marine scenes for miles. Calm waters mean ideal swimming conditions, but note that parking fills up fast at this popular spot.

Scargo Beach

Lake life is just minutes away from the ocean! Think less relaxing lakeside and more kayaking, paddleboarding, and water adventuring from this spot. Swimmers can splash around unencumbered in the roped-off area free of other activities. Note that this is a great option if Princess Beach’s crowds swell.

Mayflower Beach

Bodyboarding or swimming, sandcastle construction or just splashing about, Mayflower Beach is popular with good reason. Wide beaches play host to games of frisbee and gentle waves means little ones can swim. Views of Cape Cod Bay, lots of parking (though it can fill up), lifeguards, and a concession stand add up to a perfect Cape Cod beach day.

Bayview Beach

Low tide means long walks and tidal pool exploration. Add in vistas of Nantucket Sound and low dunes and Bayview Beach offers a unique Dennis oceanside escape. Note that currents can be rough here and lifeguards don’t patrol this stretch. Note that the parking is for Dennis residents only.

Colonial Acres Beach

Bring the camera because you’ll want to capture the vistas of Lewis Bay from Colonial Acres Beach. This small beach offers some parking, but you can always grab a spot at nearby Englewood Beach to walk over and still take in the waters, sand, and views.

Englewood Beach

The lack of vigorous waves means the little ones can delight in the water and the adults looking for a less bustling stretch can exhale and relax. Warm waters in summer and a play area for kids add to Englewood Beach’s allure.

Seagull Beach

Downy sand, wide expanses, and gentle waves make Seagull Beach a Yarmouth stand-out. Amenities like a snack bar, showers, and parking add to the appeal.

South Middle Beach

Grassy dunes, blue waters, and white sand–not really much more to ask for at South Middle Beach. A local favorite, South Middle’s parking is limited to residents.

Parker’s River Beach

Parker’s Beach draws the crowds for good reason. Obviously the sea and sand draw people in, but a playground, jetties ideal for fishing, and a gazebo to get a break from the sun add to the appeal. Note that you might want to come early because this spot fills up fast.

Sea View Beach

Think cozy when you think Sea View. Small and quiet, the surf here invites swimmers to splash and play. Bring extra cash to cool off when the ice cream truck comes by.

Smuggler’s Beach (Bass River Beach)

When one person wants to park in the sand and crack open a book and someone else wants to swim in easy waters and another wants to cast a line, Smuggler’s Beach should be top on the list. Something for everyone, this point at the start of the Bass River is heavy on amenities–restrooms, showers, parking for boat trailers, a viewing platform, and more.

Wilbur Park Beach

Come to Wilbur Park Beach to kayak, fish, and paddleboard. This spot launches adventurers into the Bass River and has 20 parking spots. Adventure awaits!

Windmill Beach

Windmill Beach earned its name from the Judah Baker Windmill that graces this spot. Check it out but also choose this haunt for its great views and ease when setting out on a kayak or paddleboard. Another bonus? This is a heavily-trafficked boating area where you can watch the vessels cruise by.

Gray’s Beach (Bass Hole Beach)

Come laze the day in the sea and sun at this almost wave-free Yarmouth spot. Low tide lets budding marine biologists examine hermit crabs and other ocean life swimming in tidal pools. Parking makes this sandy expanse even easier to visit.

Wood Neck Beach

Pack your net and buckets because there’s no shortage of horseshoe crabs and other marine life to examine at Wood Neck Beach. This Falmouth fav’s sand dunes, tidal pools, and rocky beach make it more suited for exploring rather than relaxing.

Chapoquoit Beach

Pro tip: locals call this beach Chappy, and the beach’s waves make it the perfect choice for flying a kite, boogie boarding, swimming, and body surfing. Pack some cash because the ice cream truck frequently makes a stop here.

Old Silver Beach

The favorite Falmouth beach for good reason. Blue seas, white sand, and abundant amenities means the crowds flock to this Cape gem. Get here early to park your chair in the perfect water-gazing spot.

Megansett Beach

When you choose Megansett, you’re choosing what almost feels like a beach from years gone by. Think gray-weathered houses and hydrangeas bursting with blooms. Add in a popular spot for kayaking and boating, and Megansett’s charms abound.

Falmouth Heights

If your Falmouth stay coincides with July 4th, claim your spot to watch fireworks launched from the sea that dazzle in the sky. Even if you find yourself here another time, Falmouth Heights’ calm eastern side is perfect for family fun in the water.

Bristol Beach

Looking for a less crowded option that still offers plenty is sand and sea fun? Check out Bristol Beach and delight in the quieter delights. More experienced swimmers flock to the beach’s western side.

Surf Drive

Come ready for fun in the surf and come hungry. Surf Drive not only offers plenty of shoreline to swim and play but also make sure to catch views of Falmouth Heights and Vineyard Sound.

Stoney Beach

Get a dose of education while on vacation. Stoney Beach hosts laboratories where scientists come to discover more about the marine world. Fear not–non-scientists also love this spot for soft sand and a shoreline that goes far out before getting deep.

Menauhant Beach

Pronounced “Min-nont”, this beach’s warm waters and easy waves create a spot that locals love. Bring your camera or phone to snap pictures of impressive sand dunes.

Arts and Culture

Catch a show at the Cape Playhouse, America’s longest-running professional summer theater. Some of Broadway’s best light up Dennis when the temps climb and check out children’s programming, including summer arts programs. Art lovers can walk through the galleries of the Cape Cod Museum of Art and marvel at the more than 2,000 permanent installations and rotating exhibitions. Make sure to save time to stroll through the museum’s sculpture garden where flora, fauna, and creativity intersect for a total sensory experience.

Fishing

Freshwater, saltwater, harbor, or sea–why choose? Depending on the season, catch striped bass, flounder, bluefish, and pollock. Add big scores like bluefin tuna or blue sharks to your trophy wall when you explore deeper seas. You won’t catch whales, but watching them can be just as fun. Tours take you to spots where these ocean giants roam.

Golfing

Bring the clubs and take a beach breather at one of Cape Cod’s many courses. Some of our favorites include Dennis Pines, a par-72 course known as one of the Cape’s best places to tee off; Bass River Golf Course, where you can swing alongside views of the Bass River; and the recently renovated Cape Club.

Shopping

Coastal flair abounds at Cape Cod’s retailers, with artisan goods to one-of-a-kind boutique finds to farmers’ market favorites. Art and antiques also abound at galleries and shops.

On the Water

In, on, or high above, Cape Cod’s waters mean endless adventures. Swim or kayak at Scargo Lake and of course one of the town’s shore points. Reserve a guided kayaking tour to navigate coves and waterways for an immersive marine experience. Book a time parasailing high above the water or a fishing charter to take anglers to the best spots.

Hiking and Biking

It’s not just the shoreline that tempts fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers. Cape Cod’s vast network of trails brings you close to nature. Bikers love to ride the 27 miles of the Cape Cod Rail Trail that weaves through some of the Cape’s most stunning settings. Wander through the marshlands along the Callery-Darling Conservation Trails and spy birds and other animals that make this home. For a chance to weave your fitness into nature, the Knob’s (Cornelia Carey Sanctuary) 118 acres along the shoreline let hikers and bikers smell the sea breeze as they wander through the meadows and woodlands. For an easier walk, test out the 1.8-mile paved path at the Flax Pond Conservation Area.

Dining

The Cape boasts some the freshest seafood. Enjoy your lobster or fresh flounder while sipping cocktails along the water. Casual dining spots let you drop in for Italian, Mexican, pizza, and other fare. Note that many venues fill up fast during the summer months, so reservations are a good idea.
