The fireplace was nice and cozy and the kitchen was large and easy to make meals in. As others have said, the lack of locks in bathrooms was not ideal and the walls are thin, so you can hear every little thing. It is very close to the Beaver Meadows entrance station of RMNP and easy drive back to downtown Estes Park. Home was comfortable and clean with plenty of included supplies. We had 4 adults and two small kids in our group and this house easily accommodated everything we needed. We did not have any need to contact the host while there, but they did reach out to us regarding a nearby forest fire and road closure, which we appreciated.The only thing not matching the listing was that photos showed a swingset that was not there, but that was not a huge issue for us. It was more spacious than we anticipated, especially the living area and kitchen. It was also pristinely clean. It was really cold during our stay, and the electric blanket was a nice bonus. We have three young children, and the setup was fantastic for us. This cabin is a great location in Estes Park. It is close to everything, and only a five minute drive from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. We would stay here again in a heartbeat, and highly recommend that you do too! Nice amenities, nice wood fireplace (w/provided wood), outside grill (itself was very clean, some rental grills are not that way). Family room had a very large TV, WiFi worked well with 5+ devices. Mattresses were very comfortable. I thought the small electric water heater would be a problem, however it kept up with the whole family in terms of showers after a long hike and using the washer/dryer. The secondary bathroom's shower is very small, however the primary shower was more than adequate. The only thing I would say was a disappointment was the kitchen. The photos show a very large kitchen (and it is), however the secondary oven doesn't function, cabinets needed repair, and the kitchen itself was not really well stocked (could use newer pots/pans/equipment). Primary oven worked so it didn't affect our stay. Everyday there was wildlife (mostly deer) walking across the property. The 3rd bedroom is tiny and the bed isn't the most comfortable. It also has a skylight so it wakes you up at like am. There are 2 heaters but they weren't very effective while we were there. It also suddenly got super cold so that might have something to do with it.The place was very clean though and had everything we needed. The location is great, near the downtown. The photos make it appear more secluded so we were surprised to be in a thickly settled neighborhood but with the Elk and Mule deer walking through the yard, we couldnt have been more happy. We did some food preparation, but mostly ate out. Kitchen pots and pans show quite a bit of life with scratched bottoms, etc. Our biggest issue was with the family room furniture. The seats in the couch and matching chair are so worn out that the pillows you see in the photo are required to be sat on in order not to sink in a hole. As those were the only seats, other than a rocking chair which was okay, we constantly fought with getting pillows arranged right so that we were comfortable.Perhaps our age (74) and home facilities affect our opinion about the bathrooms. We are accustomed to seat-level toilets and those in the property are the normal sized which were somewhat difficult to use minus a neaby grab bar. This would not have been an issue except that we arrived the day after the early September snow where the evening temps were down in the 20s... Rachel from SkyRun moved us to a very nice unit at the Peaks at Marys Lake where we spent two nights and then on to another unit there for the third night. Although this was a bit disruptive, I commend SkyRun and specifically Rachel for doing a great job to accommodate us. They are a class act and I would both recommend and repeat the use of their services. All three of the units we visited were spotless and very nice. The SkyRun management was very responsive. We discovered the kitchen sink was clogged and they had a person working on it within a couple hours. This created a mess but they also promptly sent a cleaning crew when we requested a clean up. One note: the heaters did not seem like they could handle really cold temperatures. The home is lovely and we appreciated the well-equipped kitchen (we cooked in most nights) and plenty of space for 4 adults and 3 small children. Our little kids loved the third bedroom designed just for them! The location is conveniently close to a small grocery store, to RMNP and is minutes from downtown. While the home is close to a main road and the yard feels like its sharing space with other homes yards, the place was peaceful nonetheless. Lots of deer and elk sighting, too! Stayed Jul, 2018 Lovely Cabin, Convenient and Esthetically Pleasing My husband and I rented Lazy Elk for a 4 day stay. We anticipated that our sons may be able to join us from Denver, but work demands would not allow them. We loved this cabin. It is very convenient to hikes and drives in Rocky Mountain National Park; we walked downtown, took the Tram for exceptional views and toured the historic Stanley Hotel. The furnishings, attributes and layout of this place are wonderful. The only downsides we would mention is it's proximity to adjacent homes and the road, Riverside which is quite busy as the bypass to the Main Street and it's crowds. The busyness and noise was only observed when enjoying the patio, but not too bad. We had 4 Elk decide to lay around the yard one day, and observed a passing deer and bunnies. Lastly, the check-in and check-out times are very tight, and not in-line with other places we've stayed. It is nicely located about 5 minutes from downtown and approximately 30 min from various trailheads inside the park. I would definitely recommend. Easy to find in the middle of everything but far enough away to be private. My daughter got married close to the cabin and the stay was great. Family from NY stayed with us and the 20+ elk hanging out on the lawn was amazing. My daughter had a great wedding and the stay was effortless. Stayed Jun, 2018 Great location My family and I stayed at the Lazy Elk for about a week and we are familiar with the area. The cabin is clean and comfortable. There is a grill and patio seating outside. The sliding doors did not have screens which would have been nice to get a cross breeze to cool things off. The Welcome booklet asked for you to start a load of laundry before you left but we couldnt find any detergent. (Not a big deal unless you dont realize this until the night before your departure and you have to find a store open to buy it.) Everyday we were visited by elk and deer and the morning we left we even saw a coyote. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would rent again. Alicea L.
