Beautiful setting, lovely cabin. The facilities were great. One thing that bothered me was the presence of critters. My sister found mouse droppings on her clothing, I found them by my bed and could hear them at night in the ceiling. I did tell the host about it and she said she would let the caretakers know about it. I felt for the price I paid for the rental of the cabin and additional fees, I should have not have to worry about mouse droppings in the house.

Thank you Stephanie - the thing with living in the mountains and a very rural area is there will be critters - We set traps and clean but those critters wiggle their way back in. Cabin exactly what we were looking for. Quiet surroundings, wonderful view of mountains from home. Wildlife strolling across yard, close to grocery shops, restaurants and main street for browsing/shopping. House amenities like washer and dryer always welcome and in good working order. Evenings out on screened in porch just lovely. We hiked during the day enjoying Rocky Mountain N. P. , did a historical tour Stanley Hotel, visited local museums and over all just enjoyed our days on vacation.

Absolutely loved staying here at the Mac Craken Cabin. Very rustic. Floors worn and unhewn. Walls were logs or split lumber. For the most part all furniture was antique and rustic. But not so rustic you felt you were camping in the woods in a tent. Modern amenities in kitchen and bathrooms. Whole house was heated by a subfloor warmer, and several baseboard floor heaters in the dining room and in one of the bedrooms as well as 2 space heaters in the second bedroom's closet.This was perfect for us, slightly off the beaten track up the side of the mountain, but a quick walk or drive down to everything you would need. GORGEOUS views. Miles away but not really from civilization and smack dab in the middle of Rocky Mountain National Park.However, parents with young children it should be noted that this house is full of older furnishings and antique pieces, as well as a REAL PIANO that works next to a bedroom wall. Do not plan to use the beautiful fireplace. It is prohibited.

This was a trip worth every single moment. The cabin was beautiful and had plenty of character. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. The views were spectacular. Caught a glimpse of some wildlife throughout our stay. Overall, excellent experience. Power and water did go out due to a snow storm but was restored after a couple hours. Enough time to explore the essence of the Rockys

We did not ultimately stay at the rental we booked. Upon arriving, we discovered that it was snowed in and inaccessible. We called SkyRun and they were able to immediately reroute us to another rental in fairly close proximity. It wasnt what we booked, but it was very clean, very comfortable, and right along the Big Thompson. SkyRun turned what could have been a pretty inconvenient situation into a really nice weekend.

We received about 3 feet of snow the day before you arrived, everyone with a blade on their truck plowed for three days or more to dig out residents and visitors alike. A vintage cabin that's maintained its rustic charm. The furnishings, tableware, artwork, books, and furniture have clearly been there for generations, so if you're looking for a sanitized and modern cabin this isn't your place. But I loved it! Spectacular views. I'll be back!

One of a kind cabin!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this historic cabin. The inside was clean and very cozy. The acreage surrounding the home was beautiful. There was wildlife joining us for breakfast every morning. My favorite place was the large front porch. The location was very convenient to downtown Estes and the National park. I love history and this cabin do not disappoint!

We loved staying at this historic cabin. Its very close to town by car but set back from the road so it feels secluded. The views from the porch cant be beat and we had a nice visit from elk and deer. The pictures are very accurate. The whole feel of the place is great. Wed love to stay again!

That View!
This cabin was so charming and cozy with a view you truly cant beat! We spent a lot of time on the porch with some elk and mule dear visitors right out front. Easy access to RMNP and a quiet secluded neighborhood. Loved it, would book again!

Nice Place, Beautiful View
I enjoyed my stay, but be aware there are strict rules about where you can eat. No eating in the livingroom means no popcorn and a movie. Kitchen and dining room only. There is no AC but there were 2 box fans so if it is warm out, keep this in mind. The room with the queen bed was VERY warm during the day. I also found dirty tissues below one of the nightstands and pots and pans that a previous person used and did not wash properly which leads me to believe the cleaning staff could do better at checking this stuff, especially when paying such high cleaning fees these days. There are also a lot of antique dishes and nothing states what is microwave safe. I know due to my age, but my grown daughter did not. Just be aware.The sheets and towels were all clean and there were spare towels. There was a massive fly issue in the kitchen. They come in through an ill-fitting window by the stove and I found no flyswatter around so had to make due with a towel which I did toss in the laundry with my load.They are adamant about keeping the windows locked when you leave, which is smart and you should, however when we arrived we found many of the windows unlocked, but not open. I just happened to check my bedroom window before bed and sure enough, it was not locked so check the windows. If their cleaning staff is supposed to be checking this between guests, they need to have a talk with them (I'm not sure if they are supposed to be checking this or not).Overall, flies not withstanding, the cabin was fun, it has an amazing view, it is close to anything you could want in the Estes Park area and my daughter and I enjoyed our get away.

Weve visited Estes Park so many times, staying at a lot of different placesmotels, lodges and cabins included. Theyve all had their good and less good qualities. The McCracken Homestead has a host of great qualities! Its easy to access and pretty close to town but hidden enough to welcome deer and elk, foggy mornings for having coffee on the screened in porch, clean rooms, well appointed kitchen, comfy beds andplenty of hot water! Really cool place thats very close to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Did a fly fishing trip and stayed here 4 nights. Awesome old school cabin. Kitchen had everything we needed and the grill worked great. Somewhat secluded, but youre still very close to a lot. No A/C was not a problem, even in August. Communication from host was great. Never had to reach out for info. Would definitely stay here again.

Very Overpriced
PROS: Quiet, conveniently close to Estes Park, charming, comfortable beds, historic interest. CONS: Way overpriced for a weekend stay when all fees were included. The front porch was flooded in a rain storm and furnishings looked weathered and worn out. Poor lighting at night. Kitchen furnishings were quaint odds and ends. Only electric heat is in one bedroom and the dining area. The bathroom space heaters would be dangerous to use unsupervised. The high price outweighed the historic charm.

MacCracken Homestead This historic cabin was built and owned by the first Park Ranger in Rocky Mountain National Park. The front porch is a screened in porch thus will get wet. We will talk to the owner about adding additional lights. The space heater is to be used supervised and to heat the bathroom up before you take a shower/bath. Amazing View!
We spent almost all weekend on the screened porch, taking in the amazing view. A bald eagle even flew right by, landing on a tree behind the cabin. We absolutely would stay here again!

Great mountain views
One could sit at the front windows all day and enjoy the mountain views from this historic homestead in Estes Park, Colorado. Add to that the elk that grazed in the yard every morning and you have the perfect recipe for a relaxing mountain vacation. The home, which sits almost at the entryway to Rocky Mountain National Park, is comfortable, cozy, and well-stocked with essentials. Nearby Estes Park offers a variety of restaurants, shopping venues, and a lovely river walk adjacent to the downtown area. All in all, a very scenic and lovely place to be.

If you're looking for a place to turn it off, go here. It has all the modern convinces without passwords and whistles. What a treat to sit around the table play cards ,listen to the sounds of nature and catch up on each others lives.The views are postcard perfect, we sat on the screened porch watching deer graze. The night gave you a lot of stars to watch.

MacCracken Cabin- A Gem on a Golden Hillside in Estes Park!
The cabin is full of history and charm, yet very comfortable. The kitchen is fully furnished. Prior to arrival we were concerned about heat. No one replied directly to my questions prior to the trip, but the heat was not an issue at all. The cabin had everything we needed and more! We had a lovely and memorable stay. Thank you.

The historic home is a short drive from downtown Estes, offering a quiet and peaceful oasis. The home itself offers historic charm along with a fantastic view of the lake and mountains. Drive time to hikes is modest and easy. The furnishings, particularly in the living room, do not match the photos. Comfort is modest. Though there are many light fixtures the living room is dark in the evening. Overall, if you are looking for a quiet place to unwind the cabin is worth checking out.

For the amount we paid in cleaning fees, we were very disappointed in the cleanliness of the floors. I don't think the floor and rugs under the couch hasn't been cleaned in months.The overall floors were dirty, this was apparent when the bottom of our socks at the end of the day were dark brown!

Great location. I loved the setting. As others have described is rustic. Is clean. Kitchen well stocked.. New stove. The one complaint from others in my party is the furnishing in the living room are different than photos. 2 chairs and sofa are not as nice, worn and not very comfortable.. Pictures should match. With living room furnishing changed was hard to gather comfortably. Would have spent less time there but was Olympics time and did gather to watch in the evening.

Beautiful, historic property
The cabin is so unique and historic! It is like staying in a museum. The property is exactly as described and also full of fun surprises, like the antique books and the handwritten notes on the doorframe documenting temperatures dating back to the 1930s. So cool! We used the cabin as a base for exploring RMNP and also had a great time exploring the property - big boulders to climb and incredible views! Everything was clean and comfortable. We had a wonderful stay, but one complaint: The cleaning and additional fees were REALLY high. VRBO publicized that the reservation was 100% refundable, but that did not include the additional fees. We ended up spending much more than we intended and were not able to cancel the reservation, even on the same day, without losing hundreds of dollars in fees. I'm sure I could have seen this coming with a little digging into the listing, but I have never had this experience and was caught off guard. Mentioning it here in case it helps future visitors - look at the full price, not the nightly price. And I wish I had booked directly from SkyRun and not through VRBO! That would have saved some money as well.

The MacCracken cabin is on a hillside just east of Estes Park, up the hill from the lake. There were a few cabins nearby, but that was no problem at all. It was very quiet and still at night. We loved the snow showers and the big snowstorm that arrived just as we did! Henry, from the KOA campground down the hill, took it upon himself to be a good neighbor, as he called it, and plowed our driveway. The cabin provided everything we needed. Seriously, everything. We are checking our schedule to see when we can return to the MacCracken cabin. Thank you!

We had a great stay at this old cabin! Its got all of the quirks that we love about old houses: antiques, wavy glass, and creaky doors. Its not plush like a 5-star resort with room service but it was clean and very comfortable, the location cant be beat, and the views from the porch are choice. Its secluded enough to have privacy but not so far away that you dont have cell service or a 2-minute drive to shops. Wed recommend it to old house lovers and those who want to stay in a place with a story. SkyRun was easy to work with and communicated everything we needed to know quickly and efficiently. If you want rustic beauty, this is the place to stay.
Very charming, exactly as listed in the property summary. Very clean, well-stocked with things needed for cooking and hanging out at the cabin. When you read other reviews about the close proximity of wildlife here, that is no joke. Multiple elk, mule deer, black bear (a young one), rabbits, and ground squirrels galore. Thankfully those all stayed outside, but we did have a fair share of late-night mouse visitors. Was strange at first, but to be expected, and not a major nuisance.Extremely well located. Far enough from town to feel remote and close to nature (see paragraph above, amazing!), but a 5-10 minute drive will get you to whatever you want to do in Estes Park.Rustic charm galore. But I must emphasize "rustic". Very clean, well maintained, bathrooms were great, hot water, and beautifully decorated with antiques and books to peruse. Keep in mind though that at its core it's a well constructed 100+-year-old cabin with some nice updates. The MacCracken Homestead will not disappoint visitors looking for a unique vacation experience.

Large cabin for a family of 4, well located, in a quiet area, 5 min drive from grocery stores and shops. View from the patio is amazing. Lots of historic artefacts add to the lodge's charm.You might have to share the property with mice...I didn't mind too much and hid food in the cupboards. Bears can visit as well...Anyway, wonderful stay.

Sky run needs to emphasize which door the lock box is on for people who get there after dark like we
We did enjoyed our stay at the Mac Cracken cabin but feel like a few things wouldve made it more enjoyable such as a little bit larger TV in a more localized area where everyone in the living room could see it and also there was only one shower in the cabin not counting the claw tub with the handheld sprayer and the see through shower curtain. We had 4 adults sharing one shower. We had to go buy batteries for the remote for the TV and we had to go buy detergent so we could wash towels. The detergent was caked and we werent able to use it. I called the office after hours about the lock box and no one ever called me back on that and I called the office because the TV got off the channel. No call back!

If you like upscale/fancy hotels and that's what you are used to DO NOT RENT THIS CABIN. If you love antiques, peace and quiet and privacy, by all means RENT THIS CABIN! If I had a month to spend at this cabin it probably would leave me wanting more. This cabin was clean, there wasn't even a trace of a mouse (despite other reviews and yes, I was on the lookout). The front porch was to die for to just sit and relax. There is nothing around it to keep someone who is looking for nightlife or some other form of entertainment. The only thing I took issue with was we were under the impression that it was IN RMNP. It is not, it is on the other side of Estes Park (east side I believe). Everything was close enough for a short ride. The morning we left there was a family of mule deer that came down the hill. Didn't even attempt to get close to them - they knew we were there and didn't seem to mind. I would rent this cabin again in a heartbeat - yes, it was THAT awesome.

Beautiful and historic cabin very close to Estes Park (a tourist trap) and the Rocky Mountain National Park (one of the wonders of the world). Accommodation is a bit basic, but the cabin is well equipped with two good bedrooms and a spacious kitchen, as well as a separate dining room and covered porch. Plenty of room to park. It has an outside barbecue, but indoor fires are not allowed. Great for a log cabin experience.

I am a firm believer in knowing what you sign up for - that being said, the fact that there were mice was not a surprise. It definitely wasnt a deal breaker - just would be nice if it could be better controlled. The views were incredible, the atmosphere cozy and the porch and dining room were wonderful. Anyone looking for fancy - this is not the place. But if you appreciate the history of a place and like antiques, it is definitely for you. We loved our stay and exploring the area!

The screened front porch has amazing views and the cabin is close to attractions/downtown. We saw elk, a coyote and deer all while just sitting on the front porch. The cabin itself is decorated in period but with modern amenities. As soon as you walk in, the feeling of the history of the cabin asserts itself making the visit so much more immersive. We definitely enjoyed the visit and hope to return next year!As a note, if you plan to go hiking in RMNP, the shuttle at the visitor's center makes accessing the park much easier on busy days.

This cabin is perfect for anyone looking to stay a bit outside the hustle and bustle but still be close enough to easily access the town and RMNP. The home is amazing but expect what you might with an old, rustic cabin. Floors will creak, doors will stick, etc., but you really cant beat the experience of staying in a place like this one. The kitchen was perfect for cooking family meals, and sitting out on the porch together looking at the mountains was my favorite memory. As long as it stays as secluded as it is and the area isnt further developed, Ill be booking again in the future.

Beautiful rustic cabin in a great location and amazing views. We had 4 adults and 2 kids and there was plenty of space for everyone. Keep in mind the cabin is quite rustic and we did see a mouse or two, but with the cabin being mostly original, that is almost to be expected. It in no way detracted from our stay. They had plenty of dishes and cooking supplies and having a washer and dryer was awesome. Nice walks right out the back door. We even had a bear trying to get in the trash and were able to watch from the kitchen window. All in all, a great vacation and great cabin. We will be back!

The cabin was so homey and just what I expected after seeing the pictures on the internet. Our favorite spot was the screened in porch with the absolutely beautiful view. Very cozy but spacious cabin with great views of the mountains! Watching the mule deer from the front porch was certainly a bonus to an already great experience. The owners were wonderful to work with and were quick to answer any questions we had. It's close enough to town for shopping and restaurants but far enough away for the seclusion you're looking for. If renting the MacCracken Homestead, you are in for a treat! It's a step back in time and a one-of-a-kind experience. It's best not to count on the sofa bed as it's not at all comfortable (even by sofa bed standards).

Cozy cabin
This historic cabin was a nice change of pace from staying in a hotel in Estes Park. Pros: The cabin was perfect for 2 couples or a family of 4. Views are beautiful and the history of the cabin is interesting. It is only 5 min from downtown Estes. 3 min from Grocery store. Cons: Fireplace was inoperable which was huge for us. We showed up expecting to start a nice cozy fire as it was snowing outside and were disappointed we didn't know ahead of time it was not in working order. Cabin is not as secluded as expected. Large home renovation/construction project going on next door. Smaller issues: Radio did not work properly, coffee maker could stand to be replaced and dishes checked for cleanliness by cleaning crew. We had to wash dishes and utensils before they could be used. Linens and towels were fresh and bathrooms seemed clean, but the overall cleanliness of the cabin needed a bit of attention. We had to knock down cobwebs and wipe off countertops when we arrived.If the cleanliness had been better and a few of the amenities upgraded I would have given this cabin 5 stars. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this cabin.

We loved everything about this cabin and can't wait to visit again. We used this as our staging ground to visit RMNP and couldn't have chosen a better place. It is out of the way enough as not to have many neighbors but close to everything we wanted to do. The description and pictures of the place are a perfect representation of the cabin. We did a fair amount of cooking and the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, small appliances, etc.

Rent this place!From location and basic amenities, to trying something a little different, this place was great. For a rustic cabin experience, you get modern amenities, plenty of towels and linens, and a decently stocked kitchen. We loved looking at the antiques from the furnishings to wall hangings to dishware - very cool. The location is perfect. Semi-remote so you feel disconnected, but a two-minutes drive to restaurants and 5 to main shopping. Wildlife watching was abundant from the moment we pulled up. Overall experience was great and communication from Skyrun was above what we expected as we navigated a snowy drive from Denver.

Secluded and rustic, yet close to town and RMNP!
This was the perfect spot for four people. We enjoyed different meals at the cabin and some in town. The site was perfect for us....secluded, yet close to town and RMNP. My only suggestion would be to have a separate container for recyclables. We did find the Waste Management facility, so it worked out fine. Nicki was phenomenal in getting some prescription meds sent next day to our next location....excellent service!!!!

Full of antiques...very much a historical experience.
View from front screened porch was gorgeous in the morning. Located near my favorite breakfast spot...Notch Top, which was a big bonus.

Loved the house, great location and the VIEWS!!!!
This house was everything we hoped it would be. Felt like a cabin in the remote woods but was super close to town and Rocky Mountain National Park. The best part was the views of the mountains right from the screened in porch. Absolutely stunning! This house was perfect for our family of 5.

If you crave an authentic cabin with incredible views from a classic screened porch, this is your place. MacCracken Cabin is one of those one-of-a-kind special spots updated with all the comforts of 21st century living. It was a great launchpad for our 3 days hiking in RMNP. Kitchen was well stocked and extremely functional as we only ate out once. Great beds, good shower, boom box- so bring your CD's and TV/wifi for those who need to connect. But the best was the authentic cabin atmosphere of getting back to another era of simplicity while hiking in one of the most beautiful and serene parks in the US.

Wonderful cabin
This is a very rustic but comfortable cabin on the edge of Estes Park. It easily accommodated our 4 family members. The two bedrooms, two full baths plus pullout sofa bed and trundle were all very comfortable. The kitchen has all you need to cook inside or outside on the grill. Fast WiFi and satellite TV were bonuses. We loved our stay and hope to return. Carol with Sky Run was awesome, responding so quickly to our questions and a few very minor needs.
