Our late July visit however was very warm and without air conditioning the cottage became very stuffy and uncomfortable by late afternoon, early evening. Approximately 3/4 of the windows could not be opened and some that did open(kitchen) had to be propped up with sticks. Having the ability to open ALL of the windows to create good cross ventilation would have made this home perfect for a summer visit. Ceiling or portable fans would have made a big difference too. Host's response: This is one of my favorite homes! I could live on the deck right by the river! The picture windows cannot be opened but the smaller windows can be opened. There are some that need new screens which we are currently working on. This is a great home close to town and RMNP but away from the crowds. Perfect location about as close to RMNP as you can be. It was great to avoid having to drive through busy downtown to get to park, especially during construction. Beautiful views of river and mountains and plenty of visiting elk! There's a grocery store and restaurants at the end of the street, again, nice to avoid downtown during construction. Finally, I want to address an update since photos. As a mom of two small children I was nervous, and almost didn't book this place, due to the deck that appeared to be not to code backing right up to the river. It was a HUGE relief to me when we got there and discovered the deck railing has been re-done. The rail spacing now appears to be to code and the railing extends down the stairs and past the hot tub and grill allowing us to relax and not constantly stress/hover over the kids! The hot tub kept us warm, the house was cozy, and its walkable to a local market that is very well stocked for anything youd want to cook. Very convenient to get to the main drag of Estes Park and RMNP, which we did most days and nights. The cabin would have easily accommodated another couple during this winter visit. We sat on the porch every night and even had a bull elk cross the River and stay directly behind the cabin. It is far enough from town you really feel like you are in the mountains. The beds are full beds so if you are average height, your feet will hang off the bed and it will not be a comfortable sleep if you are sharing the bed. Other than that it was a great cabin! Stayed Feb, 2022 Gorgeous views and set apart from the hustle and bustle of downtown Estes Park This cottage had ample space for my husband and I. I would say it could sleep 7 if people didn't mind sleeping on futons and couches. The bed we slept on was comfortable and nice pillows. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances, it even had a little blender so I could make my coffee in the morning. The location was close to the supermarket and quiet but there are neighbors right next door, which surprised me because based on the photos the cottage looks more secluded.I hot tub was not as nice as I had hoped, the jets were weak, the cover needs to be replaced, and it didn't stay hot every time were trying to enjoy it. One night it only would stay at 99degrees no matter what we set it at. Still enjoyable the other times but not fantastic.The communication with the property manager was pleasant and access for getting into the house was good. The front door was very hard to open (sticky) and I didn't like that we had to use the lock-box to leave the key to get in every time and that we had to use the key on the inside to lock the house at night; seems like there is some room for improvement on that. We loved the view from the back deck and saw elk 2 out of the 4 days we were at the cottage; it was exciting to see them so close up. The location of the cottage is just outside of the YMCA of the Rockies and Rocky Mountain National Park so we loved that because we went to RMNP daily! Downtown is only 5 minutes from the cottage. It was close to downtown without being in the middle of it all. We especially loved the hot tub. It was a great way to relax each night after a long day of hiking. The only thing that we found negative about the property were the locking mechanisms for both doors. You had to lock the front door from the inside with a key and the back door only locks with a small sliding bolt lock on the bottom ( which was bent, so it made it difficult to lock properly). It was a very short distance to the park entrance. We had what we needed in terms of utensils, plates, and other provisions and it was easy to go to the grocery store for food. The one thing that we had to be cautious about was the patio which led straight to the river we had to keep an eye on our young children as there is no fence between the patio pad and the slope to the water. It was a quiet little place to get away from the craziness of Estes Park Elk Fest and the crowds of people in the park watching the Elk. From the property we watched deer, turkeys, rabbits, and lots of elk every day. From the deck we watched an incredible Bull Elk battle that lasted 20+ minutes.I do agree with previous reviewer (Dawn), the hot tub would not go above 99 degrees which is basically the same temp as the human body so it was merely a warm tub. Also as a retired firefighter I would strongly recommend that the locks be changed from the dual-cylinder key locks. I would be very surprised if the state and local codes permit them. Great deck, very peaceful. We saw and heard more elk than we did people, so just what we wanted. If there are any downs to this property, it would be that the hot tub could be hotter, and the doors have to be locked and unlocked from the inside with a key. Stayed Aug, 2019 Relaxing Retreat We had a wonderful experience at this home! It is in the perfect location, close to the RMNP entrance and also very close to town. There is a market at the end of the road and a wonderful restaurant, Bird and Jim, that you should not miss! The house is old, but in a charming way, and we loved how it has been painted and the decor is perfect for the space. There are lots of beautiful windows for viewing that are adequately covered with blinds or curtains if needed. We loved having them open. There is one house very close next door, but we did not see anyone there. The size of the house was just right for our family of four. We loved being on the river and leaving our windows open at night to sleep with the sound of the water. The kitchen is adequate and had what we needed. We mostly cooked breakfast and had sandwiches on the go. We spent one dinner at home and used the outdoor grill to cook our fish we caught. The deck is fabulous! We loved eating and reading out on the deck and enjoying the beautiful view. The hot tub was a bonus after hiking, river rafting, fishing, and all our adventures. We have only two things we would bring your attention to. One, is that the hot tub WILL NOT set higher than 99 even though the instructions say not to set it higher than 102. I was able to take a very hot bath, so that helped. The second is that the house description includes fishing rods for use. We were never able to find the rods and management was not able to reach the owners. I will say that management was very responsive to any questions or concerns we had. I've contacted maintenance about the hot tub temperature. We apologize that it was a problem when you were in the home. Not great river access for fishing, but beautiful views. The hot tub is only a 2 person lounger. Very relaxing, but not made for more than 2 people at a time. We cooked all of our meals at the cabin and it was stocked with all of the kitchen items that we needed to do so (pots, pans, utensils..). The accommodations were perfect for our family at this very special time. The cottage was clean, we had ample space and we found it very comfortable. The location was perfect in that it was close to town, yet felt like it was hidden away in the wilderness. The flowing river was an added bonus to the beauty of the surroundings. If we could change anything we would have felt more comfortable if we didnt have to lock the doors from the inside. If there was an emergency during the night we all worried about being able to exit the premises quickly. Several outlets were loose, which felt to be a safety risk. Restaurants right there and a hop, skip jump to downtown. was definitely a plus. My only issue that would have given it a 5-star rating is if the windows to view all this nature were cleaner. I just so happen to clean the picture window from the living room to view the deck and river. Had to wait 3 days to get the TV working.
