We picked this house not for the indoor decor, although that was fine, but for the location because we love the outdoors and animals and we were not disappointed by either. You look out the beautiful floor to ceiling windows to a majestic mountain. The outside was my favorite place l’ve ever stayed.We got up before sunrise every morning to walk up the hillside and sit on one of the huge rocks to drink our coffee and watch for wildlife. We were never disappointed. The very first morning a huge bull elk walked right in front of us and posed for the perfect picture. The second morning three mule deer walked right in front of us with those big ears at attention.One night while locking the front gate a huge owl landed on the pole in the front yard. The rugged beauty of the backyard was unmatched, I’d stay there again in a heartbeat. Also, super nice to be able to pull into your own garage to load and unload, especially if like us you had driven 20 hours to get there. We highly recommend this place to anyone who loves nature. Patricia Stayed Sep, 2024 Review This is a beautiful home away from the bustle of downtown Estes Park, which is only a 10 minute drive away. The view is spectacular from the family room with the entry area to the property a place where many pull over to take photos of the mountains ahead or of the local elk who are out and about, usually across the road. The kitchen has most things you need if you want to cook. The beds and pillows are comfortable. My sheets did have some bleach stains on them, but obviously were clean, as was the rest of the home. There is a small, cozy stone patio and grill if you want to cook and eat outside. Yes, this home is not new, and could use updates I suppose but I felt privileged to have the opportunity to enjoy this location and space! The view from the living room was beautiful every morning. It is outdated but we liked it because it felt like a mountain/cabin home and thats what we wanted. The washer/dryer worked amazing, wish we could go back to some of those older machines. Its about a 8-10 min drive to the town and 15-20 min drive to the Beaver Meadows entrance to RMNP. We would stay here again! Wish we would have asked for the garage code but thats our fault. The front walkway does look like its overgrown but it was fine getting to the front door. Karla Stayed Jun, 2023 Review The location of this property is amazing - about a minute's drive to Lumpy Ridge/Gem Lake entrance of RMNP and approximately 15-20 minutes to Beaver Meadows entrance. View of Longs Peak is absolutely gorgeous. Home was very clean. It is quite dated, however; everything seems to be in the original state from when the house was built in 1982. It does seem like some basic upgrades to this otherwise beautiful home would make so much sense (getting rid of the cheap carpet throughout the home and even little things like the totally rusted shelf in the primary shower seem like relatively easy fixes). When we had a question about something in the home, the property management was easy to reach and extremely attentive. Perhaps this is just part of property management company vs. private owner, but it felt arbitrary for us to have to wait in the rain for the door code to work at exactly 4pm (they send it to you at but you can't enter until 4). The location was exactly what we wanted in that it felt secluded and private, yet downtown Estes Park was just a 5 minute drive away.The property was remarkably clean, probably the cleanest vacation home we have ever stayed in. It was well-supplied with plenty of towels, bedding, toilet paper, etc. The only criticism was that the mattress in the master bedroom was a bit uncomfortable with divots on either side, but this was a relatively minor issue. Would love to see them renovate the place a little because its very outdated but we knew that when we booked it. We had some difficulty checking in as we hadnt received the anticipated text with codes (I double checked and the number on my account was correct). Thankfully they answered the phone for us after hours when we arrived (9PM!). We spent most of our time by the fireplace. Just beware, there will still likely be smoke billowing inside when youre starting the fire even with the flute open per instructions so be sure to have the side door open when youre starting a fire. Also!! The side doors by the fire place - eek!! The doorknob will turn whether its locked on the knob or not so make sure you remember the code if you close the behind you because you will be locked out and have to walk around to the front door haha. SO so glad that the front door is a code to unlock because I would have been totally screwed hahah. One more thing the first morning I woke up and walked around the property to check out the sites and I stumbled upon HORSES!! 5 of them! The most beautiful post card winter horses are next door neighbors to the property. Wow. So magical. Host's response: Thank you for your review. They had a portable fire pit and sleds to use in the garage. Each bathroom had hotel-like shampoo, conditioner and soaps to use that smelled wonderful. We enjoyed a week filled with beautiful mountain views and even got to see wildlife up close from the back patio (a heard of elk came by to say hi one morning). The propertys proximity to local points of interest was excellent (downtown, Rocky Mountain National Park, Roosevelt National Forest, Lumpy Ridge, etc.). We enjoyed several nights by the indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit. The heater was very loud from the main bedroom which made it hard to sleep some of the nights. The common areas were pretty cold in comparison to the bedrooms, despite the temperature being adjusted. Other than that, our stay was wonderful and we hope to return someday! The beds were wonderful (I even ordered the same pillows online because I liked them so much!!) and the house was very clean and warm. The grocery store is not too far away for any essentials you may need; the kitchen has lots of cooking utensils which made cooking easy. The rooms had great light, storage, and stayed nice and warm. Stutzhaven is a great property. Very quiet and secluded but within minutes of Estes Park and the gateways to RMNP. Unfortunately and fortunately the road the home is on was being repaved during the week we rented which was a challenge. But now the road to the home is very nice (we didn't think the road was in much need of repair anyway!). We spent time with family and saw all the sights. Stayed Sep, 2019 Throwback Fun in Estes Park This house is wonderful. It is true to its 60's-ish design, and a delight to stay in. Everything about this house we loved. Some might say the bathrooms are dated, but we thought they were true to the house's design and fun. It is secluded in feel, but not far from anything in Estes Park. We only had 1 issue with the location: Every day, when we were done having fun in RMNP, there would be somebody parked on the road in front of the driveway. They were parked there so long that we went down to see what they were doing. Before we got to the bottom of the driveway, the people drove off. The only suggestions I would have would be to replace the toaster and supply a pitcher for drinks. Everything we put in the toaster burned on one side and didn't toast on the other. My husband looked inside and said that the heating elements were broken. Also had brought some tea to make and would have been nice to be able to make a pitcher of tea. We loved seeing the Elk on the grassy slope across from the patio (though there were usually a handful of cars strangely parked right in the middle of the view- for some reason the end of the driveway seems to be some sort of local meeting spot). We spent a wonderful holiday enjoying the spectacular mountain views and lounging in front of a warm fire! The great room was ideal for cooking and hanging out together. Super cozy and comfortable. (6-16-17) Carol L. Stayed Dec, 2017 A Wonderful Home for Family! Mom and Dad have been coming to Estes Park since 1979. Today we are celebrating our 10th Anniversary. We stayed here with them and our two children this week. We enjoyed fireworks along Dry Gulch and one evening but the light of the moon, Mom and I sat up with a fussy baby enjoying the silhouette of the mountains. The kids enjoyed pine cone collecting and bubbles during our stay. We loved being so close to downtown and the National Park - a drive over to Grand Lake was very worthwhile. It was a wonderful week full of hiking, rafting, biking, fly fishing, animal watching, shopping & so much more. It was a week of making memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you! It was awesome to come and soak in the beauty of God's creation. The views are spectacular in varied weather: clear, to snowing 10 inches. God is Good. We have been to Estes Park before and always enjoyed our time with friends hiking and exploring. We were able to introduce our grandson to the mountains of Estes and Rocky Mountain National Park. He loved the wildlife and was a trooper going on trails at Bear Lake, Sprague Lake, and Lumpy Ridge. Having cancer was not going to prevent me from coming to Estes Park to complete my bucket list.
