"Thunderbird," a historic 1924 log cabin near Allenspark, CO, and just twelve miles from Estes Park, offers a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom retreat featuring original hardwood floors, hand-hewn log walls , and a cozy wood burning fireplace. Just three miles from the Wild Basin entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, this 1,129-square-foot home includes a fully equipped kitchen and large windows with views of Mount Meeker.

Step back in time and embrace the ultimate old-school mountain experience! Your journey begins as you walk up 6 rustic steps to the entrance of this authentic log cabin. Inside, you will find a quaint sitting room featuring a cozy sofa, a TV for movie nights, and breathtaking views of Mount Meeker framing the window.

At the heart of the home sits a centrally located kitchen complete with a charming retro oven—the perfect spot for slow mornings and making hearty meals for the family. Nearby, enjoy the quaint dining room where you can share family meals surrounded by stunning mountain views.

Kick back and relax in the separate living room, featuring a gorgeous stone fireplace perfect for chilly mountain evenings.

When it is time to rest, retreat to one of the two King bedrooms, both intentionally designed with warm, yesteryear charm.

Kids will absolutely adore the secret closet space featuring their very own tea party/play area!

The adventure continues outside behind the log outbuilding, fully decked out with log furniture, hanging chairs, relaxing hammocks, a foosball table, and a grill—all perfectly framed by your own private Aspen Grove.

BEARS in the area - secure trash, lock doors and windows when you are not in the home. Do not leave food or drinks in your car.

Management provides a starter kit of amenities to get you through your first day or two. Amenities include toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, sample-sized bottles of shampoo/conditioner, small bar soap, dishwashing soap, coffee, etc. Guests will need to provide or purchase additional toiletries and products as needed beyond this starter kit.

Local On-Call Staff available after hours for emergency issues only, i.e. gas leak, broken furnace, broken water line, etc.

Review

 Allenspark is an overlooked gem away from the crowds and great hiking at Wild Basin! If you are looking for a vintage rocky mountain cabin experience this is it! (Yet fresh !) Two very big bedrooms with comfy king beds. Functional bathroom- but rustic. Sky run could not be more responsive and accommodating! Our booking was last minute and high season- so everything was expensive- but this was the same price as holiday inn in estes but has 2 bedrooms - a kitchen and sitting room w fireplace! We also love hiking at near by Lily Lake and Meadow Mountain cafe for breakfast. A handy mini market at Meekers next door.

We really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely stay here again. The cabin is quaint, peaceful, and feels like a true retreat. We especially loved relaxing in the hammocks by the aspen grove—it was one of our favorite parts of the property. The setting is private and quiet, making it a wonderful place to unplug.Guests should know that part of the cabin's charm is its vintage aesthetic. It is not modern, but that's part of what makes it special. The beds were comfortable, the linens were clean, and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed.The only drawback was that we had no cell phone service, and the Wi-Fi was somewhat spotty. While that made it easy to disconnect and enjoy our vacation, it also left us a little concerned about being able to reach the owners or anyone else if an emergency arose.Overall, this was a charming and relaxing place to stay, and we'd happily return.

Review

Such a special cabin!! This time capsule is an incredible spot for visiting RMNP, Wild Basin , Meeker Park and Allenspark. The additional covered patio is a slice of heaven overlooking an aspen meadow that attracts deer. We were a little concerned about being close to the road but it was not a detractor at all. This is a sweet place with so many original personal touches. Love that both rooms have king sized beds with extra pillows. The kitchen is very well stocked!
