Fall and early winter are a wonderful time to experience this quieter side of the Verde Valley. Cool mornings invite you onto the trails, changing leaves bring touches of gold to nearby creek corridors, and clear evenings are perfect for stargazing.

A Peaceful Hilltop Retreat

The Scholar’s Casita is a completely detached studio perched on a peaceful multi-acre hilltop property in Lake Montezuma. One of the special parts of staying here is the wildlife—deer wander through the property nearly every day, often passing right by the casita.

Wake to crisp high-desert mornings and sunlight streaming through the windows. Lace up your hiking shoes or grab your bike and head to nearby trails right from the neighborhood. Spend the day exploring Sedona’s red rocks, Wet Beaver Creek, local wineries, ancient sites and Northern Arizona’s historic small towns. Then leave the crowds behind and return to the quiet of the hilltop as the sun goes down and the stars come out.

The Scholar’s House is also located on the property and may be rented separately during your stay. The casita is a completely detached building with its own private entrance and space. Both sit atop the hill, and there is plenty of convenient on-property parking. The driveway may occasionally be shared with guests staying at the main house.

Simple, Cozy & Comfortable

The Scholar’s Casita is intentionally uncomplicated. Rather than resort-style amenities, you’ll find a comfortable place to sleep, a private bathroom, reliable high-speed internet, beautiful surroundings and the essentials for a relaxed stay.

The studio has a full-size (double) bed and is best suited for a solo traveler or a couple comfortable sharing a cozy bed. During cooler months, the casita is warmed with a space heater rather than central heat.

The kitchenette is designed for breakfast and simple meals and includes a mini fridge/freezer, hot plate, toaster oven, drip coffee maker and Keurig. There is no microwave or full-size stove/oven.

A small dining table doubles as a workspace, and Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi makes this a great little spot for a work-from-anywhere escape. There is no television, so bring a favorite book, stream from your own device, or simply enjoy a few evenings without the usual distractions.

Good to Know Before You Book

The casita is designed for guests who appreciate a simple, peaceful stay surrounded by nature. There is no television or microwave, heating is provided by a space heater, and the full-size bed is cozier than a queen or king.

The main house may be rented separately, and the driveway may occasionally be shared with other guests. Parties, events, loud gatherings, smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited.

Pets are welcome with an additional pet fee. To confirm your reservation, a background check is required for property safety and insurance compliance.

beautiful spot, with some of the best views. sunset was incredible, and stargazing was perfect. the casita is cute, picture-perfect. neighbors said as they walked by. and local restaurants had good food and were welcoming. definitely recommend this place!

I loved this place! It was the perfect peaceful and quaint getaway spot, suitable for one or two guests. I was cozy every single night, and enjoyed coming back to the Airbnb each evening. Mornings were perfect. The place had everything I needed. It's about 30 minutes from Sedona, but this drive was a good way to end each night and start each day. The views are also great!
