Fall’s turning leaves draw in the crowds as the area turns from green to red, gold, and orange. When the snow starts to fall, the people start to come to Big Bear’s two ski resorts, Snow Summit and Bear Mountain where elevation exceeding 8,000 feet makes hearts race. With a humming dining and nightlife scene and plenty of activities to keep the kids engaged, Big Bear will be a top stop in your vacation rotation.

Let's Talk!

Snow Summit

Ready to take on a Black Diamond run? Maybe you’re a novice who’s mastering the pizza. Somewhere in between? Snow Summit’s range of trails invites all levels to swoosh down its slopes. An 8,200-foot elevation pumps hearts and offers serious bragging rights. Snowboarders, you’re covered, too, and don’t leave once the sun sets. Snow Summit’s night skiing highlights the mountain vistas from the slopes in a whole different way. Lessons and rentals add to your skill and ease.

Bear Mountain

Beginner and experts group runs pair with more terrain parks than Bear’s sister Snow Summit, drawing in daredevils and adrenaline junkies. Plenty of options await you and your board to build up skills and expert boarders flock to the superpipe. Take a lesson at Bear–the superpipe awaits!

Shopping

Big Bear Boulevard cuts though the
The Village at Big Bear and its establishments serve up cozy treats, hot buys, and sizzling entertainment. Come for the skiing, but save time to pop into shops to score souvenirs, outdoor gear, and one-of-a-kind finds. Artisan goods range from tasty treats to upscale boutique finds.

Snowshoeing

Relaxation and fitness might not always pair together, but snowshoeing is the perfect low-impact way to get out into the snow and calm the mind. Stop by the Visitor Center to pick up an Adventure Pass and head out into Big Bear’s trails. If you want to see some of the area’s best trails, book a guided tour.

Snow Tubing

Ditch the skis and grab a tube! With three tubing choices, spin, slide, and fly down the hills. Hit Big Bear Snow Play or the Alpine Slide during the day and stay for Glow Tubing by night on Fridays, Saturdays, and holidays. If the rest of your crew is on the slopes, Snow Summit’s Grizzly Ridge Tube Park invites non-skiers to play in the snow.

Dining and Nightlife

Visit the world with a trip around The Village’s eateries. Go to Italy and savor pizza then head over to Japan for the freshest sushi. Sure, you might still technically be in Southern California, but your taste buds might be fooled. Don’t go too soon. Nightlife at Big Bear means musicians provide the sonic backdrop for some of the area’s best craft beers.

Hiking & Biking

Big Bear’s prime location in the San Bernardino Forest opens up more than 100 miles of trails to explore by bike or by foot. Tailor your journey through meadowlands, the high desert, or just stay close to the lake. Hiking trails span the fitness spectrum from easy quarter-mile walks to challenging 15-mile advanced paths. Good news–there’s plenty of choice in between. Bikers flock to Summit Bike Park for downhill adventures and the area has more than 100 miles of single-track roads. Multiple road cycling paths round out this ultimate biking experience.

Fishing

Want to test your fishing skills? Summer means fishing tournaments at Big Bear and you might just take home one of the big prizes. Even if you don’t cast off to compete, the chance to reel in the lake’s bounty like rainbow trout, small and largemouth bass, panfish, and more make the trip a reward in itself. Boat rentals get you out on the water and for a guided outing, charter one of the lake’s fishing tours.

Golfing

In between the winter snow and the advent of leaf peepers, find time to hit the Bear Mountain Golf Course. Tee off from May to October season on this 9-hole course and keep your swing sharp when you book a lesson. Add in the San Bernardino mountains as the backdrop and golfing doesn’t get more stunning.

Water Adventures

Pick the level of adventure you crave. Swimming and lounging lakeside cool you down but when you want to heat things up, try wakeboarding or waterskiing. Newbies can book a lesson at one of the lake’s three watersport schools. Boaters, check the resort’s website for rules and regulations. Spend the day lounging on a pontoon or jet ski for ultimate thrills. Kayakers and paddleboarders, bring your own and launch off from one of the ramps or gear up with area rentals.

Arts & Culture

Maybe it’s Big Bear’s natural beauty that inspires creativity, but whatever the muse may be, the arts spring to life at Big Bear Performing Arts and Theatre. Plays ranging from thrillers and comedies to musicals bring the stage to life. Check and see what’s in town to infuse culture into your stay.

For the Kids

Discover a different sort of treasure when the family sails the “seas” on the Big Bear Pirate Ship. Take the adventure back to land with a 300-foot descent at Big Bear Summer Tubing. Want even more thrills? The Mineshaft Mountain Coaster winds through the trees and lets you control the speed. Give your heart a break and put your mind to work as you solve the puzzles at the Big Bear Escape Rooms. Add in bowling, The Big Bear Alpine Zoo, and you’ll never have to hear “I’m bored!” when you’re in Big Bear.

Big Bear Alpine Zoo

Safely see the lake’s namesake when you come to Big Bear Alpine Zoo. Bears live in this animal haven along with animals and birds rehabilitating their way back to health. The care the zoo’s experts provide means most animals can be returned to the wild, but make sure to plan a visit to see them as they heal.

Big Bear Discovery Center

Mix eco-learning and the arts at the Big Bear Discovery Center. This one-stop hub brings visitors closer to the natural world with programs and educational events then shifts to focus on the arts with live musical performances and live theater productions.

Gold Rush Mining Adventures

Pan for gold (and crystals and minerals and gemstones). Feel what it was like to be an 1800s Gold Rusher when you pan for treasures and visit unique panning stations. Even if you’re a repeat visitor, you never know when you’ll strike gold.

Big Bear Valley Historical Museum

More than a place to learn about the Gold Rush, The Big Bear Valley Historical Museum includes exhibitions going back 3,000 years to detail Native American cultures who first lived on this land. Nine buildings focus on the different eras on this area to give visitors a complete sense of how the past and present interact.

Off-Roading

Go beyond the lake and bounce your way through the backcountry trails in a Jeep tour to get a whole other sense of this wild landscape. The Big Bear Jeep Experience. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails let you tailor your adrenaline-fueled ride.

Property Damage Waiver

Enjoy peace-of-mind with our incidental damage protection.

SkyRun includes a property damage protection waiver on each reservation. The damage waiver covers damage to the property up to $1,500 so long as the damage is accidental and reported to SkyRun prior to your departure. It does not cover damage that is willful, the result of negligence, or damaged caused by the misuse of household items. It also doesn’t cover unreported damage. SkyRun doesn’t charge our guests a refundable damage deposit in lieu of the waiver. Unlike a refundable damage deposit, the damage protection waiver is nonrefundable.

If during your rental of our property, you damage the real or personal property assigned to that property, SkyRun will cover the cost of repairs or the cost to replace the property up to an amount not to exceed $1,500. Should the cost of the damage exceed $1,500 or does not meet the criteria for a “covered loss”, and the property owner’s insurance policy also does not cover the loss, then you shall be responsible for the full amount of the damage which will be charged to the credit card on file. Coverage is provided to you and all travelling companions that are staying in the home overnight during your stay.

Coverage is not provided for loss due to:

  • Your intentional acts or gross negligence.
  • Any damage that occurs if you are in violation of the terms and conditions (including but not limited to having more than maximum occupancy or having a party).
  • Loss, theft or damage to any personal effects owned by you or brought on the covered stay by you.
  • Loss, theft or damage caused by any person other than you or your traveling companions with whom you share the property reservation unless substantiated by a police report.

Your Duties in the Event of Damage. You must:

  • Take all reasonable, necessary steps to protect the property and prevent further damage to it.
  • Report the loss in writing (email ok) prior to check-out to the SkyRun staff.
  • Provide us documentation such as pictures to substantiate the claim.

Refer to individual listings to see more amenity information, and please contact us directly if you still have questions.

When you book direct with SkyRun, you avoid paying service fees that traditional listing channels charge, like Airbnb. Our prices are also competitive with rent-from-owner rates, but we offer professional service, optional travel insurance, and immediate on-site assistance should the need arise. In addition, we offer exclusive discounts from local businesses, available only to SkyRun guests. SkyRun can help you plan and save on your entire vacation experience, not only the rental itself.

Travel insurance is an optional addition to your total rental charges. It is offered on our reservation form at the time of booking. It is also usually offered at the time of booking when you booked with a 3rd party booking site. You can also add travel insurance onto your reservation within 48 hours of booking with SkyRun. The cost of travel insurance varies and is usually between 7% - 9.5% of your total reservation cost depending on the coverage type. If you do not have travel insurance, you can not cancel your reservation for any reason. If you have travel insurance and need to cancel or make a claim refer to your specific policy. Ask us for more information about the travel insurance policies SkyRun offers.

You can rent any of our properties by booking directly on this website using a credit card or you can call to book a reservation if you would like to speak with a vacation planner. When you book, 1/3 of your total reservation cost or a minimum of $300 is charged as a non-refundable deposit to secure your rental. 30 days before your arrival, the remaining amount is due and becomes non-refundable if you need to cancel for any reason (see travel insurance above for exceptions). At this time, the credit card we have on file will be automatically charged for the balance.

You must be 25 years old to rent. No smoking and no pets (unless specifically designated as pet-friendly) are allowed in the rentals. No parties where more than the number of people the property sleeps are allowed in the rental at any time. As in your own home, renters are of course subject to citations for noise violations, etc, handed down by public officials. Remember you are staying as a guest in someone's home, where much investment has been made to make your stay enjoyable; please treat all private property with the respect it deserves.
