Visit Glacier County

Rugged and real–this is Glacier County. The eastern gateway of Glacier National Park fuses wild landscapes with deep cultural roots and a laid‐back lifestyle that begs you to disconnect from distraction and connect with land, water, and sky. Prairies to mountains and all the nature in between create a nature lover’s paradise. The rich Blackfeet heritage is visible in the powwows, storytelling, art, and preserved ancestral lands .
The gateway villages of St. Mary, East Glacier, and Babb beckon hikers, photographers, families, and road‐trippers to explore Going‐to‐the‐Sun Road, Many Glacier, Hidden Lake, and other park highlights. Really looking to unplug? Stay at remote lodges, ranch cabins, or historic park lodgings and uncover a spiritual depth absent in flashier resort towns.

Glacier National Park

Nestled in the heart of Montana’s rugged Rocky Mountains, Glacier National Park is a breathtaking expanse of alpine peaks, turquoise lakes, and more than 700 miles of hiking trails. Known as the “Crown of the Continent,” it’s a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts offering scenic drives along the famed Going-to-the-Sun Road, encounters with wildlife like mountain goats and grizzlies, and views of ancient glaciers still carving the landscape. Whether you’re kayaking on Lake McDonald, trekking to Hidden Lake, or simply soaking in the starlit skies, Glacier promises an unforgettable immersion in raw, untouched wilderness.

St. Mary

Access Glacier National Park at St. Mary, but hit the visitor center for maps, park updates, and ranger talks to learn the ins and outs before you head out. Obviously natural beauty is the top draw so budget time to hike St. Mary Falls and explore the more than 10 miles of St. Mary Lake. Since St. Mary is on the Blackfeet Reservation, engage with programs like Native America Speaks Program where Blackfeet, Salish, Kootenai, and Pend d’Oreille tribal members share stories and culture.

East Glacier

Feel the intersection of history and nature in this gateway to Glacier’s southern entrance. The town’s vibe leans into its past with charm. This is your spot to enter the less-crowded Two Medicine Valley with lakes where you can explore or charter a boat where the captain regales you with stories about these lands.

Babb

Enter the eastern end of Glacier through Babb. The town’s general store stocks up visitors, but the top draw is the sheer majesty of nature. Sitting on the Blackfeet Reservation, Babb has access to Many Glacier Valley, which makes an outstanding way to enter Glacier.

Hiking

Flat lakeside trails or rugged mountain paths beckon hikers and bikers to test all varieties of Montana roads. Glacier National Park’s trails include favorites like Many Glacier Valley and Two Medicine Valley, which have trails to challenge the fittest hikers or paths inviting trekkers for a more relaxed experience. Also save time to hike Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.

Fishing

Head into Glacier for ultimate Montana fishing. Favorite fishing spots include Swiftcurrent Lake, Lake Josephine, St. Mary Lake, and Two Medicine Lake where the scenery might be the best catch. Fly fishing reigns supreme on the Flathead River. Try your own luck on these and the many lakes and streams or book a chartered fishing trip to take the hassle out of the journey.

Ice Fishing

Bundle up and head to Duck Lake to catch rainbow and brown trout. Lower Two Medicine Lake is another ice fishing favorite. Remember to always check weather conditions for safety and to secure both Montana and Blackfeet Tribal fishing permits.

Biking

It’s a small window, but from late May to mid-June, Going-to-the-Sun Road has seen the last of the winter snow but remains closed to cars, providing a sliver of time primed for biking. If you can’t make this small window, check out Flathead National Forest’s extensive paths.

Cross-County Skiing

Backcountry paths or groomed trails–Glacier County morphs into a winter wonderland for cross country skiers. Glacier National Park’s main roads close to cars for the winter and turn into a network of cross country skiing paths. This is your chance to ski Going-to-the-Sun Road and if you’re looking for groomed trails, head to Whitefish Lake Golf Course Trails for classic and skate skiing.

Snowshoeing

Much like how you can cross country ski in Glacier’s closed roads, you can also snowshoe along these reimagined wintry trails. Two Medicine Valley and Going-to-the-Sun Road are popular spots to explore and the views make the walk more than worth the effort. Make sure to check conditions before you head out.

Snowmobiling

Even though many parts of the park and towns close down for winter, there are still chances to carve your way through the snow-covered paths. Flathead National Forest’s trails provide the ultimate winter thrill ride and local companies offer rentals and gear to get you out on the paths.

Golfing

Glacier Park Lodge Golf Course boasts Montana’s oldest grass greens in the state, so tee off and enjoy a bit of history with your game. Book a tee time at this 0-hole course where each tee pays homage to chiefs of the Blackfeet Nation.

Arts & Culture

Glacier County’s culture invites visitors to take a break from the natural wonders of the region and explore the deep histories of the land. The Museum of the Plains Indian in Browning and details the history and culture of the Blackfeet, Crow, Northern Cheyenne, Sioux, Assiniboine, Arapaho, Shoshone, Nez Perce, Flathead, Chippewa, and Cree Nations. Guided Blackfeet Cultural Tours merge the history of the Blackfeet Nation with horseback riding tours, Jeep tours, and hikes where guides connect the land to the culture and experiences of the Blackfeet. If you’re lucky enough to be in Glacier County in the summer, see if your trip coincides with
North American Indian Days where tribes from Canada and the US make this one of the largest celebrations of culture.

Property Damage Waiver

Enjoy peace-of-mind with our incidental damage protection.

SkyRun includes a property damage protection waiver on each reservation. The damage waiver covers damage to the property up to $1,500 so long as the damage is accidental and reported to SkyRun prior to your departure. It does not cover damage that is willful, the result of negligence, or damaged caused by the misuse of household items. It also doesn’t cover unreported damage. SkyRun doesn’t charge our guests a refundable damage deposit in lieu of the waiver. Unlike a refundable damage deposit, the damage protection waiver is nonrefundable.

If during your rental of our property, you damage the real or personal property assigned to that property, SkyRun will cover the cost of repairs or the cost to replace the property up to an amount not to exceed $1,500. Should the cost of the damage exceed $1,500 or does not meet the criteria for a “covered loss”, and the property owner’s insurance policy also does not cover the loss, then you shall be responsible for the full amount of the damage which will be charged to the credit card on file. Coverage is provided to you and all travelling companions that are staying in the home overnight during your stay.

Coverage is not provided for loss due to:

  • Your intentional acts or gross negligence.
  • Any damage that occurs if you are in violation of the terms and conditions (including but not limited to having more than maximum occupancy or having a party).
  • Loss, theft or damage to any personal effects owned by you or brought on the covered stay by you.
  • Loss, theft or damage caused by any person other than you or your traveling companions with whom you share the property reservation unless substantiated by a police report.

Your Duties in the Event of Damage. You must:

  • Take all reasonable, necessary steps to protect the property and prevent further damage to it.
  • Report the loss in writing (email ok) prior to check-out to the SkyRun staff.
