Let's Talk!

Keystone Resort

Keystone Resort has three mountains and a variety of terrain that caters to all levels of skiers and snowboarders, from beginner to expert. The award-winning A51 terrain park features jumps, rails, and boxes that are designed for freestyle skiers and snowboarders.

Breckenridge

Breckenridge’s warm and welcoming vibe expands across its five peaks, encompassing a 10-mile range. All that space means there’s lots of room for variety. The resort has 187 trails that range from beginner to expert, with long runs, steep pitches, and groomed cruisers. “Breck” also has five terrain parks with jumps, rails, and other features for freestyle skiers and snowboarders.

Copper Mountain

Located near Frisco, Copper Mountain offers a well-rounded skiing experience set against breathtaking mountain scenery. Copper tends to have lighter crowds, so you can enjoy more time on the slopes and less time in lift lines. And with much of the mountain north-facing, this resort also tends to have fresh snow later in the season compared to many of the other ski areas.

Arapahoe Basin

If you’re looking for late-season skiing, “A-Basin” has you covered. While most of the area closes up shop in April, Arapahoe Basin often extends into June or early July. With nearly half of the trails rated advanced and a quarter rated expert, it’s easy to see why A-Basin is a favorite amongst the serious skiers and snowboarders. Check out Pallavicini if you dare. It’s one of the longest and steepest runs in Colorado.

Loveland Ski Area

Loveland Ski Area crosses the Continental Divide and has a summit of 13,010 feet. From the two base areas, skiers and riders have access to 93 trails that offer everything from groomers to trees to open bowls. There are also 100 acres of hike-to terrain.

Vail Mountain

More than 5,300 acres of skiable terrain make Vail Mountain the area’s most popular resort. Opt for a slow-and-steady pace on one of the beginner slopes near the front of the mountain or soar down the four-mile Riva Ridge. The resort’s iconic Back Bowls offer intermediate to expert-level skiing in an expansive and remote setting. Vail also has a variety of other terrain, including groomed runs, moguls, glades, and terrain parks. When you’re done skiing for the day, check out the vibrant Vail village with its numerous shops, restaurants, and après-ski options.

Traveling to Summit County

See ‘Deals’ for discounts from Summit Express that can take you from Denver International Airport to Summit County.

The High Alpine Environment can present variable conditions in each season. Here are some helpful tips on how to prepare yourself for traveling to Summit County in the Winter and Summer months.

Winter Months

HYDRATION: Symptoms of altitude sickness can be debilitating. We want everyone to be able to enjoy their long-awaited vacation to the high country. This is why we recommend taking precautions while becoming acclimated to the high alpine environment. To reduce the effects of altitude sickness, experts advise everyone in the high country to drink 3-4 quarts of water per day and make sure about 70% of your calories are coming from carbs. At 10,000 feet above sea level, the air is thin in oxygen and moisture content. Also, remember that caffeine and alcohol are both diuretics (meaning they dehydrate you). If you choose to use them, we recommend going easy on both of these substances for the first couple of days in the high country in order to gauge how your body reacts to them in this environment.

HEATING: Many properties in Summit County are equipped with radiant and/or baseboard heating. While radiant heating is very efficient it can take many hours and sometimes overnight for the property to heat up after the thermostat has been adjusted. We recommend making small adjustments and giving it several hours. It is most comfortable if you keep the heat set between 65-68 degrees Fahrenheit.

SNOW PLOWING & SHOVELING: Driveways are plowed and decks/stairs/walkways shoveled when there is significant snowfall within a 24-hour period. Snow removal may occur at different times of the day due to schedules, weather conditions, and priorities. If your property has a garage, it is best to park inside the garage or on one side of the driveway if a storm is forecasted. This will allow the plow driver to plow as much of the driveway as possible, if at all. Most single-family homes and townhomes are equipped with snow shovels for guest use. Not all alternate decks/stairs will be shoveled on a regular basis. DO NOT park in roads as towing is enforced and/or you may be plowed in.

HIGH ALPINE ENVIRONMENT: All-wheel drive vehicles are always recommended in the winter due to variable conditions which may include heavy snow, ice, low-visibility and high winds. We strongly recommend 4WD and AWD vehicles as properties in Summit County may not be easily accessible during or after storms with traditional 2WD vehicles. Snow and ice buildup is a constant challenge in Summit County. Please be aware that decks, stairs, entrances, sidewalks and patios may be slippery as ice-buildup occurs rapidly; use caution at all times. Slips and falls are a constant hazard. Be cautious of roof overhangs where snow and ice are likely to build up.

GARAGES: If your property is equipped with a garage, please keep the garage and any interior utility room doors closed as the pipes may freeze and cause extensive damage.

FIREWOOD: For properties with wood fireplaces and fire pits, it is the responsibility of the guest to provide their own firewood. Firewood may be purchased at the Dillon City Market or Frisco Safeway. Please be aware that county-wide fire-bans may be in place which may restrict or prohibit the use of fire pits.

BBQS AND OUTDOOR FURNITURE/EQUIPMENT: BBQs, furniture and other outdoor equipment may not be accessible during late fall, winter, and early spring months. We do our best to keep areas clear, but with over 30 feet of snowfall per season this is not always practical. Hot tubs will remain open and clear year-round.

DRIVING: Driving during the winter months can be challenging. During winter storms, or when conditions require, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will implement the Traction Law. During a Traction Law, all motorists are required to have EITHER:

  1. 4WD or AWD vehicle and 3/16” tread depth
  2. Tires with a mud and snow designation (M+S icon) and 3/16” tread depth
  3. Winter tires (mountain-snowflake icon) and 3/16” tread depth
  4. Tires with an all-weather rating by the manufacturer and 3/16” tread depth
  5. Chains or an AutoSock®

During severe winter storms, CDOT will implement a Passenger Vehicle Chain Law, also known as a Code 16 — this is the final safety measure before the highway is closed. During a Passenger Vehicle Chain Law, every vehicle on the roadway is required to have chains or an alternative traction device (like AutoSock).

For more information on road conditions and traction laws, please refer to the CDOT website here.

Summer Months

WEATHER & CLIMATE: Summit County is located at over 9,000 feet above sea level and is considered a high alpine environment. Summer daytime highs can reach into the 70’s/80’s °F, with humidity typically 10-20%, and overnight lows in the 40’s/50’s °F. Afternoon thunderstorms are common; if possible, schedule outdoor activities for the morning and early afternoon to avoid getting caught in the weather. Wear layers as weather changes without much warning. The storms usually clear out for the evening. The sun is very strong at high altitude; UV rays are 40% stronger here than they are at sea level. It is recommended to use SPF sunscreen and lip protection every day.

AIR CONDITIONING: Properties in Summit County do not come equipped with air conditioning as the area has a very mild climate due to the elevation. In the hottest months, the daytime highs rarely reach above 80°F and the overnight lows in the 40’s/50’s °F. Guests are encouraged to open windows and enjoy cool evening breezes. For added comfort, properties are equipped with fans and humidifiers.

OUTDOOR GRILLS/BARBECUES: If your property has a gas grill, an additional propane tank may be provided by our staff should you run out. Properties in condo complexes may or may not have a small barbeque depending on the complex/HOA rules – often condo complexes provide shared outdoor grills for guest use.

WILDLIFE & TRASH: Summit County is home to a variety of wildlife including bear, fox, porcupine, moose and much more. Do not feed wildlife intentionally or unintentionally – i.e. please keep garage doors CLOSED during the day and night, as animals will break into the garbage cans. Do not put trash out to the curb – garbage will be retrieved from the property after guest departure.

LAWNS & LANDSCAPING: Summit County is located in a high alpine environment. The natural landscape is emphasized and for the most part, there are no manicured yards or lawns, no mowing or professional landscaping.

Summit County Public Transportation

The Summit Stage offers free public transit service within Summit County, providing access to ski resorts, public lands, lodging, town centers, retail areas, and medical centers. Many SkyRun Summit properties are located within walking distance of the numerous bus stops around the county.

Bus Schedule:
The Summit Stage operates on seasonal schedules: Winter and Summer. Check out the Summit Stage website for more information on routes and stop locations.

Silverthorne Frequently Asked Questions

We want you to have the best experience possible when you come to visit the High Rockies. We try to provide as much information as possible about our properties on the SkyRun site so there are no surprises when you arrive. In each property listing, SkyRun provides photos, virtual tours, amenity details, and reviews to empower you as the guest to make a well-informed decision when it comes to booking your lodging. If you have any questions beyond what is stated in a listing, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Each property is unique. When booking directly through SkyRun you are reserving a specific property that is individually owned. Our staff is available 24/7/365 should you need anything during your stay. Each member of the SkyRun team has first-hand knowledge of each property, so please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.

We like to hold ourselves to a high standard by paying close attention to amenity details. Our rentals come fully furnished including TVs, high-speed internet, linens and towels, a microwave, dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchen essentials. We provide supplies like shampoo, conditioner, tissues, paper towels, TP, dishwasher detergent, soaps, trash bags, etc. We provide everything you would expect from a fine hotel, and then some. Refer to individual listings to see more amenity information, and please contact us directly if you have questions. As always, our staff is available seven days a week during normal business hours should you need anything during your stay (as well as after-hours for emergencies and lock-outs).

  • Avoid paying service fees: When you book direct with SkyRun you avoid paying service fees which can cost you an additional 15% to 20% from many third party sites.
  • On-site staff available 24/7: Our prices are competitive with rent-from-owner rates, but having a local team allows SkyRun to offer professional service, optional travel insurance, and immediate on-site assistance should the need arise.
  • Exclusive discounts from local businesses: We offer exclusive discounts from local businesses, such as ski rentals, airport shuttles, oxygen machine rentals, and more, available only to SkyRun guests.
  • Assistance with vacation planning: Our staff can help you plan and save on your entire vacation experience, not just the lodging itself.
  • Last-minute lodging deals: Our pricing is adjusted automatically to assure you are always getting a competitive rate or contact the reservations team at 970-300-1817.

Travel insurance is an optional addition to your reservation. Plans are offered on our reservation form at the time of booking. If booking through a third-party site, travel insurance is usually also offered at the time of booking the reservation. If you book directly through SkyRun, you may add travel insurance onto your reservation up to 48 hours after booking your reservation. The cost of travel insurance varies and is usually between 7% - 9.8% of your total reservation cost depending on the coverage type. If you do not have travel insurance, canceling your reservation for any reason will NOT result in a refund. If you have travel insurance and need to cancel or make a claim, please refer to your specific policy. More information about the travel insurance policies SkyRun offers can be found here.

You can rent any of our properties by booking directly on this website or give us a call if you would like to speak with a vacation planner.

Booking with arrival greater than 30 days away: 1/3 of the value of your reservation ($300 minimum) is due at the time of booking the reservation. At 30 days prior to arrival, the card we have on file will automatically be charged for the remaining balance due on the reservation. Cancellations without travel insurance result in forfeiture of either your deposit (for cancelations made prior to making final payment) or the entire value of the reservation (for cancelations made within 30 days prior to arrival).

Booking with arrival in less than 30 days: The total value of the reservation is due at the time of booking and the value of the reservation is nonrefundable. Cancellations without travel insurance result in forfeiture of the entire value of the reservation.

*One exception to the nonrefundable policy: If you cancel, we will relist the unit for the nights you had booked. If someone else books those nights, we can provide you a refund based on the revenue we can gather for those nights.

For most properties, SkyRun utilizes a convenient keypad lock system which allows you to enter your vacation rental using a personalized access code, as opposed to having to pick up a key and worrying about keeping track of it during your stay and returning it afterwards. This also saves you the trouble of coming to a check-in center beforehand. Your welcome packet will be in your rental upon arrival, and our staff is always only a phone call away if questions arise.

There is no smoking allowed in all SkyRun properties. Pets are only allowed in designated "Pet Friendly" properties. An additional pet fee is required for each pet, with prior approval only. This is part of the reservation form with booking direct with SkyRun for "Pet-Friendly" properties.

Each property has its own set of house rules that can be found in the unit guidebook. No parties larger than the maximum number of guests allowed in the rental at any time. As in your own home, renters are subject to citations for noise violations, etc, handed down by public officials. Remember you are staying as a guest in someone's home, where much investment has been made to make your stay enjoyable; please treat all private property with respect.
